I'm bloody thrilled to announce The Gibb Challenge has been chosen as a National Finalist in the 2016 Australian Event Awards.
Selected from hundreds of entries across the country by a panel of experts and leaders in the industry, The Gibb Challenge’s status as a finalist places it amongst the top few events in Australia in its category.
The Australian Event Awards recognises the best events in Australia and achievements in the industry by Australians around the world, regardless of event size or audience.
You mob already know The Gibb Challenge is a socially competitive team relay mountain bike event raising community awareness and funds for charity. Tracing the iconic stock route of the Gibb River Road from the deep port town of Derby, through the vast pastoral leases of the central Kimberley and on to the community celebrations of the east Kimberley, The Gibb Challenge is a life defining adventure. In 2016 Sirens of Silence was chosen as the event’s charity partner and over $470,000 was raised to support our triple zero heroes with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and suicide prevention.
The Gibb Challenge is also nominated for Australia’s Favourite Event, which will be decided by vote of the Australian public once voting opens on Thursday 25 August. Votes can be cast at www.eventawards.com.au.
Winners of the Australian Event Awards will be announced at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine Coast on 21 September 2016.
The Awards, celebrating the best of the best in the industry, will be followed by the Australian Event Symposium, which will deliver inspiration from Creative Directors of a number of Australia’s most significant events as well as 18 skills-based sessions designed to ensure the Australian industry remains on the cutting edge of the events space worldwide.
The Gibb Challenge will be held again from Sunday 21st May to Thursday 25th May, 2017.

There aren't sufficient superlatives to adequately acknowledge the invaluable contribution made by each and every one of the Bloody Heroic Volunteers. My humble thanks are merely a down payment on a debt I cannot repay. Without their expertise, enthusiasm and effort, The Gibb Challenge wouldn't be possible and nothing would progress beyond idle bar side banter.

Broome Western Australia will once again host the Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) Fat Bike National Championships.
The Championships are exclusively for riders of 'fatties'; bikes with wide, large volume balloon tyres between 3.8 inches (100 mm) and 5.5 inches (140 mm). While originally designed for the snow fields of the northern hemisphere, in Australia they've found particular favour with beach cyclists but they're equally suitable for loose trails, soft sand and mud.
The Championships found their inspiration from the US Open Fat Bike Beach Championships, Wrightsville Beach North Carolina.
That's not a beach............THAT'S a beach.
Cable Beach Broome provides a spectacular coastal backdrop and with its unspoilt natural beach terrain, creating a unique and exciting race experience. Competitors trace ancient Yawuru song lines and the low tide shoreline out to Gantheaume Point before a second lap of Minyirr Park, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. Those at the pointy end of the field will only have eyes for the finish line and Championship honour.
Broome is an easy three hour flight from most capital cities in Australia, or an inspiring three day road trip from Perth if you prefer to self drive with your family or a couple of mates. The town has plenty to offer visitors in terms of accommodation choices, dining options and tourist attractions. Check out the options here.

The MTBA Fat Bike National Championships are just the beginning of the eight day cycling celebrations and fellowship of The Gibb Challenge. Now into its fourteenth campaign, The Gibb Challenge traces the iconic stock route of the Gibb River Road from the deep port town of Derby, through the vast savannah of the central Kimberley to El Questro Wilderness Park, raising community awareness and funds for charity. Overnight camping and fellowship at Imintji Community, Mount Elizabeth Station, Ellenbrae Station, Home Valley Station and El Questro.
In 2021 our charity partner is the Royal Flying Doctor Service - providing invaluable aero-medical services to residents, visitors and workers in Regional Western Australia.
